Leaking appliances and pipework
Dishwashers, washing machines and sink waste pipes can leak slowly behind the plinths, swelling the bottoms of units and soaking the floor beneath.
Kitchens combine water, heat and a lot of fitted joinery in one room, so they are damaged more often than most. A leaking dishwasher can ruin the bases of a whole run of units, and a pan fire can blacken the walls, ceiling and cupboards. We repair what can be saved and replace what can't, so it still looks like one kitchen.
Most kitchen damage starts low down or up high: water under the units, or heat and smoke rising to the wall cupboards and ceiling.
Dishwashers, washing machines and sink waste pipes can leak slowly behind the plinths, swelling the bottoms of units and soaking the floor beneath.
Even shallow floodwater reaches the base units and flooring, and chipboard carcasses rarely recover once soaked.
A fire on the hob scorches worktops and wall units and leaves smoke staining across the ceiling and walls.
Water and heat can blow worktop edges, crack tiles and break down sealant, letting yet more water in.
A leak from a bathroom upstairs can come through the kitchen ceiling and soak the wall units and worktops below.
Where only a few units are damaged, those carcasses, doors or worktop sections can be replaced on their own, provided matching parts are still available. Where they aren't, a wider replacement may be needed so the kitchen still looks consistent.
A kitchen is fitted around the floor, walls and services, so the work is planned alongside the flooring, plaster and decoration and everything goes back in the right order. Damaged appliances themselves are normally dealt with separately under your claim; our work is the units, worktops, tiling and the building around them.
Insurers take different approaches when a damaged unit or worktop can no longer be matched, so check your policy wording. Keep photographs of the damage and any make or range details for the units and worktops.
We set out the units, worktops, tiling and surrounding repairs in an itemised quote for consideration by your insurer. Fire-damaged kitchens are covered in more depth on our fire damage repairs page.
Report it to your insurer, then request a survey. We'll record the damage and prepare an itemised kitchen repair quote for your insurer to consider.
