Broken glazing
Cracked or shattered glass from an accident in the home, a ball through the window or debris blown in a storm.
A cracked pane, a door that no longer closes after a knock or a frame split by an impact needs putting right quickly, for security and to keep the weather out. We repair or replace damaged doors, frames and glazing and match them to the rest of the property.
Damage to doors and windows ranges from a single broken pane to a frame that has to be replaced.
Cracked or shattered glass from an accident in the home, a ball through the window or debris blown in a storm.
Split panels, damaged locks and doors that have dropped or twisted after an impact.
Frames damaged by impact, or swollen by water, so doors and windows no longer close or seal properly.
Windows and doors broken by flying debris, or letting in rain after a storm.
Damaged handles, hinges and locks that leave a door or window unable to open, close or lock properly.
A broken pane can often be reglazed without replacing the whole window, and many door repairs come down to new panels, ironmongery or rehanging. Where a frame is badly split around the damage, replacement is usually the longer-lasting repair. New glazing is chosen to suit the existing window, and replacement doors and frames are decorated to match.
Edinburgh's period homes often have traditional timber sash windows and panelled doors, and replacements may need to follow the original design, particularly in conservation areas. We note the existing style at survey so the scope allows for it.
Some home insurance policies include accidental damage to glazing as standard, while others only offer it as an extra, so check your cover. If an opening has been left insecure, it may need boarding up while the claim is assessed.
We set out the repair or replacement in an itemised quote for consideration by your insurer.
Report the damage to your insurer, then request a survey. We'll record the damage and prepare an itemised repair quote for your insurer to consider.
