Broken glazing
Windows and glazed doors broken by an impact, a storm or an accident.
After a fire, an impact or a storm, a broken window or door leaves a property open to the weather and to intruders. Where we have availability, we can board and secure openings as a temporary measure, protecting the property until the permanent repair is agreed.
Boarding is a temporary measure, used when an opening can't be closed securely and the permanent repair will take time to arrange. It keeps out the weather as well as intruders.
Windows and glazed doors broken by an impact, a storm or an accident.
Doors that no longer lock or close properly after damage.
Windows and doors damaged by the fire, or during firefighting, leaving the property open.
Rental and unoccupied properties where security matters while repairs are arranged.
Boarding is fixed to protect the opening with as little harm to the surrounding frame as possible, so it can come off cleanly when the permanent repair goes in. It is a stopgap, not a repair, and shouldn't stay in place longer than necessary.
Once the opening is secure, the permanent work, such as reglazing or replacing a damaged door, can be scoped and quoted for your insurer.
Most insurers expect reasonable steps to be taken to prevent further damage, and many policies allow for emergency work to secure a property. Photograph the damage before it is boarded, and keep receipts for any emergency work.
Report the damage to your insurer as soon as you can and keep a note of your claim reference. If the property is empty, tell your insurer, as many policies have conditions that apply to unoccupied homes. Keep a note of what was boarded and when, in case your insurer asks.
Report the damage to your insurer, then get in touch. Where we have availability, we can secure the property and then scope the permanent repair.
