Damaged roofs
Gaps left by slipped or missing slates covered temporarily so rain can't get into the roof space.
When a storm strips slates from a roof or damage leaves an opening exposed, every shower adds to the repair. Where we have availability, we can carry out temporary weatherproofing to keep the rain out while your claim is assessed and the permanent repair is arranged.
Temporary weatherproofing is about stopping the damage getting worse. The right measure depends on where the water is getting in.
Gaps left by slipped or missing slates covered temporarily so rain can't get into the roof space.
Lifted flashings or damaged chimney tops protected until they can be properly repaired.
Broken windows and damaged doors covered to keep the weather out.
Affected areas isolated so water and debris don't spread further through the home.
Temporary weatherproofing buys time. It is designed to hold until the permanent repair can be carried out, and comes off when that work starts. Where water has already come inside, the internal damage is recorded at the same visit so it forms part of the scope.
Once the property is protected, we can survey the damage properly and set out the permanent work, such as slate and tile repairs or chimney repairs, in an itemised quote for your insurer.
Insurers usually expect reasonable steps to be taken to prevent further damage, and emergency work to protect a property is often covered. Photograph the damage before anything is covered, and keep receipts.
Never go onto a roof yourself to cover damage. Note what you can see from the ground and report it to your insurer. Temporary covers can be disturbed by further bad weather, so keep an eye on them and let us know if anything moves.
Report the damage to your insurer, then get in touch. Where we have availability, we can protect the property and then scope the permanent repair.
