Fire and heat damage
Heat can damage plaster, plasterboard, joinery and flooring throughout a room, with smoke reaching every surface.
Some damage is too extensive for patch repairs. After a serious fire or a major escape of water, the best route back is often to strip a room to its structure and rebuild it properly. We manage that rebuild in order, from strip-out to the final coat of paint.
A full interior rebuild is usually the answer when damage runs through several surfaces at once, rather than affecting one wall or one ceiling.
Heat can damage plaster, plasterboard, joinery and flooring throughout a room, with smoke reaching every surface.
A long-running leak or a flood can soak walls, ceilings and floors together, so most finishes have to come out.
Internal stud walls with soaked or fire-damaged plasterboard may need rebuilding rather than resurfacing.
Where damage spreads through a hallway and the rooms off it, the rebuild is planned as one job so the finishes match throughout.
Smoke travels well beyond the room where a fire started, so rooms that look intact may still need stripping back and redecorating.
The order of work matters. Damaged materials come out first, then the structure is checked and left to dry where needed. Walls and ceilings are boarded or plastered, floors relaid, joinery fitted and the rooms decorated. Planning it as one rebuild avoids redoing work later.
We coordinate the trades involved so the rooms come back complete. Specialist work outside the building repair, such as smoke cleaning, is arranged separately as part of your claim.
For larger losses, insurers often appoint a loss adjuster, who will want to see the damage and the proposed scope before work starts. Photograph every affected room before anything is removed. If the home can't be lived in during the rebuild, some policies include alternative accommodation, which your insurer can confirm.
Our scope breaks the rebuild down room by room, from strip-out to decoration, so your insurer can see exactly what is proposed. For damage that started with a fire, see our fire and smoke damage repairs.
Report the damage to your insurer, then request a survey. We'll scope the rebuild room by room and prepare a clear quote for your insurer to consider.
